The GBA SP model AGS-101 and the Nintendo DS came with backlit screens, which are a significant improvement to the expereince. There’s also backlight ktis available for original GBA consoles, however backlight options change so often that we don’t have a section on it yet. While I similarly adore the Persona, Pokémon and Civilization franchises, there’s nothing that even comes close to the amount of time and, in the case of Fire Emblem Heroes, money I’ve dedicated to FE. Turns out, I discovered through a forum, Advance Wars shared a lot in common with Intelligent Systems’ FE series, which had just made its GBA debut in Japan.

While the gameplay mechanics were simplified, it was for the better. It was a fresh of breath air to have a tactical game that did not overwhelm the mental state of players. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance still had complexity despite its simpleness. The art style too, while retaining online shooting games some aspect of the PlayStation version, had a unique spin on it. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance had the right amount of challenge and charm.
